Day to Day, Mixed Media Installation, approx. 30 x 48 inches, 2025
"Still, the sun was hot. Still, one got over things. Still, life had a way of adding day to day."
- Virginia Woolf, "Mrs. Dalloway"
About This Work
Adapting mirror as painting surface, with semi-transparent parchment and silver craft paper cutouts cascading below the surface, Freda creates an ever-shifting, reflective experience. Silhouettes of city dwellers form negative spaces, capturing the emotional ebb and flow of urban existence. Layered drawings of natural scenes echo these human stories, unified by circular and raindrop motifs that evoke sudden events and nature’s bloom. Using transparent pigments, delicate colored pencil work, and staggered cutouts, she builds depth, each layer revealing the last, mirroring how life’s moments accumulate. This piece invites viewers to see their own cycles reflected, finding beauty in the shared patterns of existence.
